Billy Joel - "Turnstiles"

There is something uniquely lucid about this album. I think that it represents more that just Joel's finest work, and more than his most expressive songwriting ever. It seems to me that the man who wrote these songs had reached a point of self awareness and contentment with who he was and what he was doing, and it is unfortunate that shortly after this album Joel had a bit of a personality crisis - he thought he had to be a rocker. There is nothing artificial about Turnstiles - it represents the purest artistry of Joel's career, and exemplifies everything that Joel had the potential of bringing into the world of pop/rock music. On this album, Joel recognized his strengths, posed several interesting questions, and told his most thought-provoking stories.
